1. How is it possible to obtain information about whether the item of supply of Russian (Soviet) origin has been codified before in the NATO codification system?

ANSWER:The specified information is contained in the NATO Master Catalogue of References for Logistics or NATO Master Cross References List (NMCRL). The National Codification Centre for  Defence Export Products has an up-to-date version of the said Catalogue.

 

2. What is the main difference of codification of defence export item from codification of the products bought by Russian State Customers?

ANSWER:The main differences are determined by the discrepancies in the adopted classification systems used for approved item names as well as the rules for the formalized description of the items of supply to be codified or catalogued.

 

3. Are the results of codification of defence export products included into the Catalogue of items of supply of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation?

ANSWER: Yes, they are included after modification in order to comply with the existing domestic cataloguing standards. The modification is performed by the Centre of Catalogization MoD of Russia and The National Codification Centre for  Defence Export Products.

 

4. Is it necessary to codify a military item again if it has already been codified for another foreign Customer?

ANSWER: Repeated codification is not performed if it has been done earlier in accordance with the NATO codification system standards.
The results of codification of defence export products are accumulated in the Master Catalogue of Defence Export Products which is maintained by the National Codification Centre for Defence Export Products.

 

5. Is it necessary to codify item of supply again if it has already been codified in accordance with the rules of the Federal System for cataloguing of products for federal state needs?

ANSWER: It is not necessary to perform new codification and new assignment of stock numbers. Nevertheless, if according to the terms and conditions of the contract with foreign customer assignment of  other catalogue codes is stipulated, then it may be necessary to perform additional works associated with the assignment of missing codes (first of all, assignment of the INC code – or approved item name code in accordance with the NATO codification system).
